1st All-Sindh Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s Hockey Gold Cup

A colourful opening ceremony of the first All Sindh Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s Hockey Gold Cup was held in collaboration with Sindh Sports and Youth Affairs Department and Sukkur Division Women’s Hockey Association. The tournament will be held from March 27 to March 31, 2021 at the People’s Hockey Stadium in Sukkur.

The chief guest at the function was Syeda Shehla Raza, Provincial Minister for Women’s Development and GM Sindh Women’s Hockey Wing. On this occasion, she inaugurated the first All Sindh Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s Hockey Gold Cup. Chairman Selection Committee Hockey Federation Olympian Manzoor Hussain Jr., Member Selection Committee Olympian Nasir Ali, Senior Sports Anchor Mirza Iqbal Baig, Senior Sports Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah, Secretary-General of Pakistan Hockey Federation Olympian Asif Bajwa, Chairman Selection Committee Hockey Federation Olympian Manzoor Hussain Jr., Member Selection Committee Olympian Nasir Ali, Senior Sports Anchor Mirza Iqbal Baig, Senior Sports Anchor Syed Yahya Hussaini, KHA KHA Chairman Gulfraz Ahmed Khan, KHA Secretary Haider Hussain, Senior Vice President HASSP Ijazuddin.

During the ceremony, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Imtiaz Ali Shah handed over a relief check of Rs 50,000 to Imran Ali Abro, a player who was injured in a hockey match last year. Media Manager Pakistan Hockey Federation Waqas Sheikh, Social Media Manager Prof Usman Zafar, President Hockey Association Sukkur Division Arif Mahmood, Organizing Secretary Saira Bhatti and others were present on the occasion.

The opening match of the Bhutto Women’s Hockey Gold Cup was played between the teams of Sukkur and Larkana which ended in a draw. Sukkur, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad, Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah Hockey Academy and other teams are participating in the first All Sindh Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s Hockey Gold Cup.

Speaking on the occasion, Syeda Shehla Razane, Provincial Minister for Women’s Development, said that “The cooperation of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs in organizing the first All Sindh Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s Hockey Gold Cup is unforgettable. Many thanks to Olympian Manzoor Hussain Jr. and Olympian Nasir Ali and PHF Secretary-General Olympian Asif Bajwa for taking the time for the event and coming here. We have to give more priority to the talent of girls. The development of hockey in Sukkur needs to be further enhanced. The Sindh government is taking serious steps in the promotion of football, hockey and other sports. It is a great pleasure today. Every first batch has been proven.”

Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah said that there is no shortage of talent in Sukkur and he is very happy with the spirit of the athletes.

Secretary-General of Pakistan Hockey Federation Olympian Asif Bajwa said in his address that “We have come here today on the direction of President PHF. Provincial Minister Shehla Raza is very happy to see so active. Shehla Raza will look after all the affairs of Sindh Women. I am very happy to see the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of the players. I hope that these girls will use their talents to join the national team. Will be implemented and hockey will be updated which will ensure the provision of facilities without any discrimination. The Hockey Federation will extend full cooperation.”

Olympian Manzoor Hussain Jr. said that “Wherever Shehla Raza called for hockey, we always stood by her in every forum.”

Earlier, all the guests including Syeda Shehla Raza were also given honorary shields. Students from different schools performed Sindhi cultural tableaux and melodies. President Hockey Association Sukkur Division Arif Mahmood presented Sindhi cultural awards and hats to all the guests. Provincial Minister Syeda Shehla Raza also distributed hockey to Mirpur Khas and Karachi hockey teams.
