The second edition of Sahana Pradhan Memorial Women’s tournament was held at Pokhara, Nepal from February 29th till March 5th, 2020. A total of six teams had participated in the tournament. Teams were divided into two pools with the teams finishing first and second each pool would go to semi finals.
Nepal army won both pool matches and finished on top of Group A and Gandaki Province came in second with one win and a draw. Province 1 who lost both pool matches did not progress to the next stage of the tournament.
Province 5 came on top of Group B with one win and a draw. Sudur Paschim province leveled the points with province 5 and both progressed ahead. While Province 2 had lost both group stage matches exited the tournament.
The first semi-final saw Nepal Army take on Sudur Paschim province. The exciting match saw Nepal army take the lead only at the 4th quarter at 51 minutes and scoring again 5 minutes later to take the win and enter the final by beating Sudur Paschim Province 2-0.
In the second semifinal match between Gandaki and Province 5, Province 5 took an early lead scoring in the 2nd minute and then added a goal every quarter scoring at 26th, 34th and 48th minutes to beat Gandaki 4-0 and secured their spot for the final match.
The 3rd place match between Gandaki and Sudur Paschim province was an entertainer from the get go. Sudur paschim took the lead by scoring early into the second quarter, Gandaki Province who had missed some chances to equalize, fought back and managed to score a goal in the final seconds of the 4th quarter to draw the match at 1-1. With both teams scoring a goal each in regulation time, the third place decider went into shoot-out with Sudur Paschim beating Gandaki 4-2.
In the hard fought final match between Nepal Army and Province 5, both teams were not able to score goals until the final 2 minutes of 4th quarter. Both teams missed some great scoring opportunities and keepers from both teams making some fantastic saves. Ms. Sushi Kumari representing Province 5 scored a goal in the 58th minutes of the game to take the win for the team.
Province 5 was adjudged the winner and received Trophy, Gold medals as well as cash Prize of Rs 50,000.
Nepal Army as runner up received a runner-up trophy, Silver Medals as well as cash Prize of Rs. 25,000
Sudur Paschim who finished Third received third place trophy, Bronze medals and cash Prize of Rs 15,000.
Mr. Anil Sharma, Senior Vice President of Nepal Hockey and Executive Board member of AHF had distributed hockey sticks to players and coaches of various teams. The hockey kit, which included a stick, bag and ball, was gifted by Hockey India. The players were very excited on receiving the gifts and thanked Hockey India.
