AHF TOKYO ROUNDUP #3

Back

The AHF Tokyo Roundup brings you the latest developments regarding the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games!

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Thomas Bach, has highly encouraged athletes to get the COVID-19 Vaccine before coming to Tokyo, however, he has made his position clear that it is by no means mandatory.  This was revealed on Bach’s first visit to Japan since the pandemic started.

Earlier, Thomas Bach had made the suggestion that the IOC should help bear the burden of the cost of vaccination for the participants.

He also stated that he was increasingly confident that fans would be able to take part in the upcoming Olympic Games, pushed to 2021 due to the pandemic.

Thomas Bach has held his first in-person meeting with Japanese Prime Minister, Yoshihide Suga. Both agreed that the Olympic Games would be held as planned.

Former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzō Abe, has been presented with the gold Olympic Order – the Olympic Movement’s highest order. Before stepping down from his position due to ill-health, Abe was at the forefront of the Olympic Games planning.
