In less than two weeks the AirAsia Women’s Junior AHF Cup will be taking place in the exciting, modern and cosmopolitan city-state of Singapore over the course of 7 days, in which a total of 15 matches will be played at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium from September 9th to 15th. The Singapore Hockey Federation spared no expense in what’s expected to be the most entertaining and technological tournament to date.
The event will feature the teams of Chinese Taipei, Bangladesh, Singapore, Hong Kong China, Uzbekistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. All strong and growing non-stop players who will do anything to achieve the gold.
This year the competition format will consist of 7 teams participating and the preliminary round will be played in a two-pool format, which will be followed by crossover and classification matches. The top two teams from this tournament will qualify for the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2020 and will join the teams of China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand who are already qualified for participation directly based on their results in the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2015. Also, the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2020 is a qualifier round for the Hockey Junior World Cup 2021.
The venue for all matches will be the Sengkang Hockey Stadium which has a 2 expansive turf and seating capacity of 1,200 spectators. The playing surface is a water-based green artificial turf and only FIH-approved hockey balls will be used for the tournament. The stadium will also serve as the main training venue prior to the commencement of the competition for teams to use as practice facility. The average temperature in Singapore during the tournament period is expected to be 27.5 degrees celsius.
