Alyson Annan has been named the 2019 FIH Women’s Coach of the year. The Netherlands Women’s team head coach has now won the award for the third time, having won in 2017 and 2018. The past year was her most successful year,
The Netherlands team was unstoppable in the FIH Hockey Pro League, they won 15 out of the 16 games, scoring 41 goals and conceding just 10, the only loss came against Australia. The Australian team continued their remarkable form into the EuroHockey Championships, they dominated England by a staggering 8-0 score line in the semi finals and beat Germany in the Final. This result ensured qualification for the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Annan is known for keeping her players well motivated and her willingness to learn the game helps her improve as a Coach everyday. Young players thrive under her management with the likes of Frederiquw Matla, Ginella Zerbo and Marijn Veen flourishing. Annan also manages to keep her Senior players motivated. She believes that there should be balance between the experienced players and the youth within the team.
