ASEAN Nations Impressed with Thailand, Preparing for Historic SEA Games

On February 27, 2025, at the Grand Four Wings Convention Hotel in Bangkok, a meeting of the SEA Games Council was held to monitor progress for the 33rd SEA Games scheduled from December 9 to 20, 2025. Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), presided over the meeting, attended by Dato Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, Chief Operations Officer and SEA Games Federation Council Member, as well as Deputy Governor Pricha Lalun, SAT executives, and council members from member countries.
After the meeting, Dr. Kongsak Yodmani stated that it was the first meeting to follow up on Thailand’s readiness as the host country. Various topics were discussed, including technical issues, competition organization, and sports categories, with final decisions made. There will be no additions or reductions in the types of sports. Additionally, site inspections will be conducted at various venues in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla from February 27 to March 1.
The SAT Governor further commented that the 33rd SEA Games is a new dimension, as indicated by the government and His Excellency Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, who described it as the “Green SEA Games.” This initiative will focus on energy conservation, utilizing clean energy, reducing waste, fostering friendship and relationships, and promoting culture. Thailand is confident in its thorough preparations, ensuring that all sports competitions will meet the standards of their respective sports federations. Feedback from representatives of various nations has shown satisfaction with Thailand’s efforts.
Dato Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat announced that there will be four more meetings leading up to the competition to ensure Thailand organizes the SEA Games in the best possible manner. All participating nations are eager to cooperate with Thailand, with excitement for this SEA Games, aiming to have no fewer than 9,000 athletes participating. This competition will be historic, as it includes the most internationally recognized sports that are also contested in the Olympic Games.
