Though Chinese Taipei defeated Bangladesh 4-2, it was not enough to enable them to qualify for the Asia Junior Cup.
They needed to win by a huge margin to stand any chance of pipping Uzbekistan for the second spot of the Air Asia AHF Women’s Junior Qualifiers at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium in Singapore.
With Uzbekistan having a healthy goal difference of plus 6, Chinese Taipei needed to score goals to stay with a chance to end up second.
And they had a great start, scoring the opening goal in the 5th minute through Chang Hi Tsin.
But Bangladesh were on level terms Fardia Ratry in the 11th minute.
Chinese Taipei upped the ante and scored three times to lead 4-1 through the efforts of Ku Chen Yi ( 21st minute), Chang ( 29th minute) and Ko Ting Yu ( 31st minute).
However Bangladesh were not about to fold and reduced the deficit to 4-2 with Juairiya Ferdous on target in the 32nd minute.
Though they tried, Chinese Taipei just could not get past the defensive shell of the Bangladeshi team that showed marked improvement as the tournament progressed.
