JAKARTA: Oman registered their first win in the men’s Hockey competition when they defeated Thailand 2-0 at the GBK Hockey Stadium in Jakarta. The win was much looked forward to by Oman as they recorded their first victory in the Asian Games 2018.
“We needed this win and I am happy that the players delivered what was expected of them,” said Tahir.
“We missed a few chances that we would not have wanted to miss, but the basics ware done right and we made the right moves. The win will spur the boys to perform better in the coming matches.”
Oman spurned a chance from scoring from their first penalty corner in the 5th minute when then attempt by Aamaar Al- Shaaibi’s shot was saved by keeper S. Jongjum. But Al-Shaaibi got it right off the second penalty corner in the 6th minute to give Oman a 1-0 lead.
Oman has a glorious opportunity to double their advantage but the penalty stroke attempt by Mahmood Salim Al Hasni was saved by the Thai keeper a minute before Half Time. Asaad Al Qasmi got the second for Oman in the 56th minute to seal their three points.
