Lausanne, Switzerland: Through the fifth governance review of its members federations published today, ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations) has recognised the excellent transparency and good governance practices of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), its efforts to deliver and live the Olympic values consistently, and its exemplary sustainability endeavours, as confirmed by the promotion of FIH to the higher tier of International Federations (IFs). Indeed, FIH has moved one group up (from “B” to “A2”; see list below) for the first time since the inception of the ASOIF Review in 2016-17!
Commenting on FIH’s performance, FIH President Tayyab Ikram said: “I’d like to extend my gratitude and congratulations to all FIH stakeholders involved for reaching a higher group in the ASOIF governance Review for the very first time! This is a great achievement and a confirmation of how we operate at FIH”.
This performance is even more remarkable because, according to the ASOIF report, scores in the assessment generally correlated with size, meaning that International Federations (IFs) with larger numbers of staff and more financial revenue tended to have higher scores. Actually, FIH was even the second highest-scoring IF in the 8-20m CHF revenue group.
FIH reached a moderated score of 191, which positions it roughly halfway through the A2 group (see below).
Considering just the 50 indicators retained (with some amendments) from 2021-22, FIH’s score rose from 149 to 166, which is the highest ever registered by hockey’s world governing body!
Furthermore, the ASOIF report cites FIH as an example of good governance practice in numerous areas such as gender equality policy/strategy, diversity at Board/Committee level, safeguarding, elections, campaign rules, financial transparency and publishing accounts, sustainable development and adopting human rights policies.
FIH President Tayyab Ikram added: “FIH is determined to operate with the highest good governance standards. Today’s recognition of our work and efforts by ASOIF is a huge reward for us, but this achievement only motivates us to reach higher. We are aware of our responsibility and accountability, and will make sure to pursue our course for a continuous improvement in all areas of the Review. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues from the Executive Board, all Committee and Panel members as well as the FIH Team for their adherence to and support of all governance measures put in place by FIH.”
The aim of the ASOIF governance review is to promote and ensure a culture of good governance within the international federations and help drive continuous progress. It assessed indicators around five major pillars, namely transparency, integrity, democracy, development and sustainability, control mechanisms.
