The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has formally approved the country’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad emerging as the leading candidate city. The Games would mark the 20th anniversary of India’s first and only hosting in New Delhi in 2010, and serve as a stepping stone toward its ambition of hosting the 2036 Olympic Games.

IOA officials highlighted strong government backing, robust existing infrastructure, and a focus on sustainability, community participation, and athlete experience. Delegations from the Commonwealth Games Federation have inspected venues in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, and New Delhi.

The host city will be announced in November at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow, with Canada and Nigeria also in contention. India aims to use the event to showcase progress, inspire youth, and build capacity for future global sporting events.
