This will be India’s first FIH Pro League hockey match since February last year. The team resumes with a doubleheader against reigning Olympic champions Argentina. The two matches will be played at the CeNARD sports complex in Buenos Aires on April 11 and 12. The Graham Reid-coached outfit finally returned to action after a year in February with a trip to Europe. The Indian team showed no signs of the layoff rust as it thrashed Germany 6-1 in their backyard at Krefeld before holding them to a 1-1 draw. The Indian hockey team then travelled to Antwerp, Belgium, where it held Great Britain 1-1 before coming up with a 3-2 win over them, the Olympic Channel reports.
India continued their unbeaten run in South America, beating reigning Olympic champions Argentina – a team that knocked India out of Rio 2016 – 4-3 in their first practice match at Buenos Aires. The second practice match on Wednesday ended in a thrilling 4-4 draw.
The South American tour is India’s first competitive international series since October 2019. All six of their FIH Pro League matches last year were held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
The in-form India will fancy their chances against an Argentina side, which seems to be still off their best. They lost 2-3 and 0-3 to Germany in their FIH Pro League encounters in Buenos Aires last weekend.
