Iran NOC raises largest Olympic flag to mark Olympic Day 2023

The National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran raised the largest Olympic flag on Sunday, June 25 to mark Olympic Day 2023.

The 200 square metre flag was raised at an Olympic Day ceremony at the National Olympic Academy in Tehran in the presence of Iran NOC President Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, Secretary General Dr. Seyed Manaf Hashemi, and other dignitaries.

The giant flag was ceremoniously carried by Olympians, medallists and officials, to the flag post and was then raised 100 metres from the ground. School children and families also participated in the celebrations which included a run, painting, rope pulling among other activities.

 

Weightlifter Hossein Tavakoli, Sydney 2000 Olympics gold medallist, shooter Javad Foroughi, gold medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Olympic fencer Ali Pakdaman, female sprinter Farzaneh Fasihi, female weightlifter Elham Hosseini, and female Olympic shooter Hanieh Rostamian were the athletes to carry the flag.
