Kazakhstan NOC updates framework Under an impulse for structural change, the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan renewed its Executive Committee last week as participants debated modifications to the organisation’s statutes and approved the incorporation of new members.

The event was attended by Kazakhstan NOC President Gennadiy Golovkin, Secretary General Alimzhan Akayev, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Sports Serik Zharassbayev, and several representatives of the National Sports Federations. Golovkin, the former boxing champion, began by expressing his gratitude to the assembly participants, highlighting the importance of joint efforts and collaboration in the implementation of various projects.

Considering that several sports organisations belonging to the Kazakhstan NOC have experienced leadership changes and other personnel adjustments, the assembly decided to review and update the composition of the Executive Committee “to improve its efficiency and activity,” as stated by the NOC. In this regard, some vice-presidencies were updated, as well as the composition of the group of representatives of the national federations. Amendments to the Charter aimed at improving the organisation’s operational activities were also reviewed and approved.

Beyond this, another main point on the agenda that was approved was the inclusion of the Kazakhstan Figure Skating Union as a member of the Olympic committee. This is a new milestone for the entity, which in November 2023 was admitted by the International Skating Union as an independent federation to manage this sport in the Asian country. Conversely, the decision was made to remove the Kazakhstan Luge Federation from the list of NOC members due to a lack of active operations.

Following the General Assembly, the updated Executive Committee was approved:

– Vice Presidents:

  • Serik Zharassbayev: Vice President for Regional Affairs, Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
  • Shakhmurat Mutalip: Vice President for International Cooperation, President of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation
