The opening day of the Paris 2024 Olympics hockey tournaments played at the historic Yves-du-Manoir stadium in Colombes, France, was marked by wonderful hockey moments, great goals, wonderful saves and a lovely atmosphere in crowded stands, despite the rain!
The day was also marked by the attendance of the highest members of the Belgian and Dutch Royal families.
The first match on Pitch 2 saw the reigning Olympic Men’s champions, Belgium, take on Ireland and get their first three points of the tournament with a 2-0 win. Much to the satisfaction of HRH King Philippe and HRH Queen Mathilde of Belgium.
The whole day truly showcased hockey at its best on the field of play. “I’d like to congratulate the athletes who, through their incredible talent and attitude, have ensured the best promotion for hockey!”, added the FIH President.
