MALAYSIA VIVIAN MAY SOARS CUP 2021
PKS UNITEN – KPT FACE UNIKL LADIES IN FINAL
Defending champion PKS Uniten-KPT advanced to the final of the Vivian May Soars Cup 2021 through the away goal rule after being tied 1-1 with PDRM Blue Warriors in the second semi-final match at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium.
Both teams finished the semi-final campaign with an aggregate of 4-4 but PKS Uniten-KPT qualified for the final against UniKL Ladies after having the advantage of scoring three goals in the first semi-final as a visiting team.
PKS Uniten-KPT succeeded in the first goal finding strategy when Noorhayati Sirkam scored a field goal in the 41st minute.
Shocked by the opponent’s goal, PDRM launched a streamlined attack that paid off when they equalized 1-1 through a penalty corner shot by Nurul Safiqah Mat Isa, 10 minutes later.
PDRM continued to launch attacks realizing the need to get more goals to ensure qualification based on the rules of the opponent’s goal.
PKS Uniten-KPT, however, continued to survive and ensured that the final ticket belonged to them and advanced once again to the final to meet UniKL Ladies.
Meanwhile, the trio of UniKL Ladies strikers, Nur Amirah Shakirah Zulkifli, Nur Atira Is and Hanis Nadia Onn officially concluded the team’s place in the final after recording a 3-0 victory over Sabah.
After the big 8-0 victory last Sunday, the second semi-final was just a formality and training for UniKL to prepare the team for the final match.
UniKL Ladies created its own history because apart from winning the TNB Malaysia Hockey League (Women) 2021, the team coached by Roslan Jamaluddin also hunted for the Vivian May Soars Cup to be used as a collection in their first appearance.
However, the goal awaited by UniKL Ladies in the second semi-final only came in the second quarter when Hanis Nadia Onn broke the deadlock in the 18th minute before Nur Atira and Nur Amirah ensured victory with field goals in the 37th and 46th minutes.
