Mari Petroleum Azadi Hockey Cup: On the second day, two matches were drawn in thrilling competitions, WAPDA’s winning streak continued. Major General R Asghar Nawaz was the special guest of today’s match. He was accompanied by Chairman National Hockey Selection Committee Olympian Manzoor Jr.
Under the supervision of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, Mari Petroleum Sports Department decided on three more matches on the second day of the Mari Petroleum Azadi Hockey Cup. The first match was played between Sui Southern Gas and Punjab which was drawn 2-2 after an interesting match. ۔ Sohail Riaz and Rizwan Ali scored for the Sui Southern Gas team while Zain Ijaz and Abdullah scored for the Punjab team. Sui Southern Gas team got two penalty strokes in the match which was stopped by Punjab’s promising goalkeeper Hamza. The second match was played between the host team Mari Petroleum and Army which ended 3-3 after a thrilling contest. The goal was drawn. Abdul Rehman scored two goals and Wasim Akram scored one goal for Mari Petroleum while Amir Sohail, Muhammad Waqas and Wasim Akram scored for Army. The Man of the Match award was given to two players in this match. Abdul Rehman of Mari Petroleum and Amir Sohail of Army were given hockey gifts by King Khan Dubai. The third match was played between Pakistan Wapda and Pakistan Navy which was won by Pakistan Wapda by defeating Navy 0-1. Atiq Arshad scored the only goal for WAPDA. The special guest of this match Major General R Asghar Nawaz gave the Man of the Match award to Atiq Arshad.
Mari Petroleum announced the biggest prizes in the history of Pakistan Hockey Domestic Events. Each player of the final winning team will be given 100cc motorcycle and each player of the runner-up team will be given 70cc motorcycle. Muhammad Shafiq Bhatti and Muhammad Yaseen have been posted.
