Mari Petroleum wins the final of the All-Pakistan Commissioner Gujranwala Gold Cup Hockey Tournament

I would like to thank all the star players and Olympians including PHF and Punjab Hockey Association who have made this event a success. This was the first national-level event held at Arena Gakhar which will continue in future. These views were expressed by Commissioner Gujranwala Zulfiqar Ghumman at the prize distribution ceremony of the All-Pakistan Commissioner Gujranwala Gold Cup Hockey Tournament.

Mari Petroleum won the final of the All-Pakistan Commissioner Gujranwala Gold Cup Hockey Tournament held at Ghaggar Sports Complex Gujranwala under the auspices of the Pakistan Hockey Federation and organized by Punjab Hockey Association. The third position was won by Pakistan Navy. Gujranwala Commissioner Zulfiqar Ali Ghman was the special guest of the final match. Members of National Hockey Selection Committee Olympian Khalid Hameed, Olympian Kaleemullah, Olympian Nasir Ali besides Olympians Muhammad Khalid, Babar Abdullah International, Akmal Sikandar International, Olympian Ishtiaq Ahmed, Divisional Sports Officer Syed Manzar Shah and Foreign Head Coach of Pakistan Hockey Team Siegfried Aikman were also present.

The final of the event was played between Pakistan WAPDA and Mari Petroleum. Both the teams scored three goals till the end time. Later Mari Petroleum won by 3-2 in the shootout. Atiq, Aleem Bilal scored one goal each. Abdullah, Arbaaz, Arshad scored one goal each for Mari Petroleum. Haroon Khan and Yasir Khurshid officiated the match while Atif Malik was the reserve umpire. Judges were Allah-Dad, Mirza Javed, Saqib Niaz, Munawar Chaudhry, Hafiz Arshad and Shafqat Malik.

The third position was played between Pakistan Navy and Punjab Keller which was won by Pakistan Navy 3-1 through the shootout. Both the teams managed to score two goals in the allotted time. Muhammad Sufyan scored a goal while Hanan Shahid and Abuzar scored one goal each for Punjab colour. Sohail Janjua and Mahmood Ali officiated the match while Hamza Khan was the reserve umpire. The duties of judges were performed by Javed Sadiq, Ehsan Gulzar, Allah Ditta Bhatti, Shahzada Alamgir, Aslam Shah and the duties of the technical officer were performed by Rafiq Khan.

The event played at Sports Arena Ghakhar (Gujranwala) from February 12 to 19 was attended by five provincial and five departmental teams with Col. R. Asif Naz Khokhar as Organizing Secretary, Olympian Danish Kaleem as Tournament Director and Rana Liaquat Ali (Attock) as Assistant Tournament Director. FIH Umpires Manager Rashid Mahmood Butt (Railways).

Former International Hockey Umpire Dilawar Bhatti has served as Assistant Umpire Manager.
