The teams are in for a competitive time as the event includes Asian Indoor reigning champions Iran men’s team and Kazakhstan women’s team. Iran men’s team are on an unstoppable winning streak and have won all previous editions of the Indoor Asia Cup. They have also secured the bronze medal in last year’s Indoor World Cup (the first Indoor World Cup medals ever won by a non-European team). Similarly, Kazakhstan women’s team have won the last five editions of the Indoor Asia Cup from 2010 – 2017.
However, the reigning men’s and women’s champions cannot relax this year, as a number of teams are going to be making their debut appearances in the tournament. These include Bangladesh men, Singapore women, Myanmar men and the teams from Nepal and the Philippines. This fresh blood is sure to make things more interesting as they are all gunning for the top spot. Let’s see if they manage to upset the balance of power by taking down the champions this year!
A number of teams that are competing in the Indoor Asia Cup are expected to go head to head again later this year in the SEA Games Indoor Hockey Competition which will be a part of the SEA Games 2019, taking place in the Philippines in December this year.
