Mr. Tayyab Ikram calls for peace and harmony through sports

At the event hosted by the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, AHF Chief calls for peace as sportsmen are the anchors of humanity

17 October, Dhaka, Bangladesh: The Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Bangladesh, his Excellency Mr Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Tuesday felicitated the Indian Men’s Hockey Team who are here for the prestigious Hero Asia Cup 2017. The event organized at the Indian High Commission also saw Mr Tayyab Ikram, Chief Executive, Asian Hockey Federation, grace the occasion.

Addressing the esteemed audience at the event, Mr Ikram, also the Member of International Olympic Committee Commission, emphasized the need to spread the message of peace and harmony through sports. “Sports has the ability to bring unity and peace to a world that has been divided and separated by religious and political beliefs. As sports people we are the anchors of humanity and I believe, through sports, we have the best platform to unite as one and compete with the true spirit of sportsmanship,” Mr Ikram asserted.

Thanking his Excellency Mr Harsh Vardhan Shringla for his kind gesture, Mr Ikram said, “His Excellency is an avid hockey lover and I also learnt that he was a hockey player in his college days. It was overwhelming to have him at the beautiful Moulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium and grace the occasion despite a busy schedule.”

He continued to state that the Indian team is the pride of Asia. “The Indian Men’s Hockey Team has been the pride of Asia and the world. I must congratulate my dear friend Dr Narinder Batra, also now the President of FIH, who has relentlessly worked for the development of hockey in India and is now the first Indian to be elected as the President of FIH.”

The event saw eminent personalities of Dhaka that included Former Diplomats as well as renowned actors and journalists in Dhaka.
