Upon learning of his appointment this week, Majbil expressed his gratitude to the Bahrain Olympic Committee, headed by Sheikh Khaled bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Vice President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the General Sports Authority, for nominating him for the position.
Majbil stressed that the appointment was “an honour and a responsibility”. It will be an opportunity to use his expertise in sports arbitration. His main objective is to ensure the swift and effective resolution of sports disputes through arbitration and mediation, contributing to a Gulf sports landscape based on integrity, transparency and fair play.
Under the Authority’s Statutes, the Executive Director is responsible for p:
Proposing strategic plans and executive programmes for consideration by the Board of Trustees.
Implementing and monitoring approved policies.
Providing legal and procedural support to the Authority.
Representing the Authority in external relations and legal matters.
Preparing the annual budget and accounts for approval.
Recommending amendments to statutes, regulations and operational decisions.
Developing administrative, financial and procedural rules for arbitration and mediation.
The GCC Sports Arbitration Authority was established as a pioneering initiative by Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Affairs and Youth and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports. With the support of the Council of Presidents of the Gulf Olympic Committees, the Authority was officially launched in 2019, with the Kingdom of Bahrain designated as its headquarters.
