Women

Argentina will return to their ninth-straight Pan American Games final after beating Chile 3-1 in an intense South American semifinal battle. Julieta Jankunas’ 60th-minute strike was the only point of relief through the entire match that saw Argentina go unsuccessful on all 11 penalty corners. Argentina’s 3-1 victory secures them a spot in their ninth-straight gold-medal game. The Leonas are still on the hunt for their first gold at these games since 2007.

The Canadians have achieved a big 2-0 semifinal victory over the USA. Canada will meet Argentina, while the USA will regroup to play Chile for the bronze medal. The winner of the Argentina-Canada final will earn a continental champion berth to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Cuba scored their first and only goal on a penalty corner to give them 1-0 against Mexico. The Cubans will play for 5/6th place against Uruguay. While a five-goal performance from Teresa Viana Ache helped Uruguay lead from start to finish as they cruise past Peru in the first consolation semifinal of women’s competition on Day 9. Uruguay ran away with the game scoring six goals in the third quarter to finish with a 14-0 win.

Mexico and Uruguay will play on August 9 at 9:30h, while Peru and Cuba will play for 7/8th at 15:00h.
