Tough match between two great teams
The final match on the second day of competition in the Women’s Asian Games Qualifier 2022 pitted Singapore against Indonesia.
Singapore was making its opening appearance in this qualifier while Indonesia was playing its second match, after losing to Kazakhstan on the first day of the tournament.
Singapore (WR: 39) was preparing for this tournament to qualify for the Asian Games again. Laura Tan’s 100th international cap for the Singapore Team was in today’s match, congratulations Laura!
On their side Indonesia was trying to recover from yesterday’s tough match to come out stronger against Singapore.
The last meeting between these two teams was in January this year for the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 (7/8th Place), with Singapore winning 2-1.
The match had a lot of back and forth, with both teams trying to attack and drill their opponents’ weak spots, but none of this was enough to convert goals.
There were a number of penalty corners for both teams that could have led to goals, but neither team was able to score.
The green girls were trying to be aggressive in their play, while the red girls were looking for width of the field and to play all over the field.
It was a tough game, with some extraordinarily strong players in both teams, but this was not enough, and the game ended 0-0.
The best player of the match was captain Annur El Islamy, the 30 years old experienced player who already participated in the Asian Games 2018 tried in every viable way to help her team to win, but the opponent was very tough.
Singapore will play its second match tomorrow June 8 against Sri Lanka, while Indonesia will rest until June 9 when it will play Uzbekistan.
