Singapore Hockey has had a very busy start to the New Year with the National Junior League, SPSS and of course the much hyped TPG International Tri-Series. In addition, there are a lot of coaching and training sessions to be held all year round. To add to these events are more championships later in the year. But let’s have a sneak peek into the International Tri Series, which concluded over the weekend first!

The TPG International Tri-Series was underway in the Sengkang Hockey Stadium featuring three world-class teams, Netherlands, Australia and Germany going head to head in a total of six fixtures. The series started on the 18th of January and concluded with the Netherland vs Australia match on the 23rd. The tournament was a great chance for hockey enthusiasts to catch the world’s 1st (Netherlands), 3rd (Australia) & 8th (Germany) ranked women’s teams put on a highly competitive display.

The series started off with the first two matches resulting in a tie. However, in the third match, the Netherlands proved that they were still the world number one team by ousting their long-term rivals, Australia, by two goals to nothing. The Australians were hunting for redemption in their next fixture and won the next match against Germany by putting three past the German goal.

The Dutch were unwavering throughout the remaining two fixtures of the tri series as they beat the Germans and the Aussies consecutively to bow out of the tournament undefeated. Dutch superstars Naomi Van As and Ginella Zerbo secured top spots in the scoring charts with four goals between them. The “Oranje” have sent out a clear warning signal to their adversaries all around the world, whom they will meet in Rio this summer.
