Dato Tayyab Ikram Elected FIH President in 48th FIH Congress
Press Release, 5 Nov 2022: Dato Tayyab Ikram – former Chief Executive of the Asian Hockey Federation – was elected as the President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) during the 48th Congress held today on 5th Nov 2022. The General Assembly of the FIH was held online. Belgian Marc Coudron contested against Dato Tayyab Ikram for the position of FIH Presidency. The position became vacant following the resignation of Dr Narinder Batra on 18 July 2022, Mr Seif Ahmed was appointed as the Acting President of the FIH for the interim period of time.
48th FIH Congress was attended by all member National Association. Apart from the Presidential elections, the elections on 5 Executive Board positions were also held. Out of 133 voting eligible National Federations, 129 National Associations voted for the elections.
By a majority of 79 to 47, Dato Tayyab Ikram won the election becoming President of International Hockey Federation (FIH).
The Indonesia Hockey Federation (FHI) was accepted by the FIH Congress as the full member of FIH.
The 5 Executive Board Members who won the elections were:
- Hiroya Anzai from Japan
- Piotr Wilkonshi from Poland
- Deon Morgan from South Africa
- Maureen Craig-Rousseau from Trinidad Tobago
- Elizabeth Safoa King from Ghana
FIH awarded its prestigious awards to the following Asian Leadership for their valuable contribution and service to hockey:
- FIH President’s Award: Dato Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat – President, Thai Hockey
- Order of Merit: Mr Shahbaz Ahmad from Pakistan
- Order of Merit: Mr Sarinder Dillon – Former President, Hong Kong China Hockey
- Diploma of Merit: Dato Seri Subahan Kamal – President Malaysian Hockey
- Super Fair Play Trophy Rene G Frank: Kazakhstan Hockey Federation
- Guust Lathowers Memorial Trophy: Ms Miao Lin from China
Royal Patron AHF, the King of Malaysia, His Majesty Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah extended his hearty congratulations on the elections of Dato Tayyab as the President of the International Hockey Federation.
Speaking on behalf of the Asian Hockey Family, President Asian Hockey Federation Dato Fumio Ogura said, “It is a moment of great pleasure for me. I congratulate my dear friend Tayyab Ikram for his successful election as the President of FIH. I also congratulate the entire Asian Hockey Family for it is a great honour for all of us. Dato Fumio Ogura also congratulated the newly elected FIH Executive Board Member from Asia and the Asian Leadership for winning multiple FIH awards. He also congratulated Indonesian Hockey Federation (FHI) for their acceptance by congress as the full member of FIH.
