The newly completed Oi Hockey Stadium was completed on the 14th of August, 2019. The stadium is located in the waterfront area of Tokyo Bay and consists of two pitches that when used to their max capacity, can hold 10,000 and 5,000 fans respectively.

What makes this stadium really stand out, is the turf. It is made entirely from regrowable raw materials. It was designed specifically to meet Tokyo’s carbon-neutral targets and to be in line with the FIH’s and AHF’s commitments to sustainable hockey and is made from 60 percent sugar cane, meaning it requires 2 thirds less water than previous Olympic turfs.

“We are in the middle of running the campaign ‘Gift of Hockey’ and you have already given us a big gift of hockey right here. But our gift here is sustainability, development and growing forever,” Asian Hockey Federation Chief Executive Officer and IOC Commission member Tayyab Ikham said.

This sustainable stadium is part of Tokyo 2020’s ongoing efforts to build sustainable Games with the use of technologies to keep the impact on the environment to a minimum.
