The Olympic Committee revealed the Olympic Village is ready and waiting for the games to begin, with about 18,000 recyclable cardboard beds that will be used for athletes to sleep during the stay. Located in Harumi, an island district of Chūō, Tokyo (central Tokyo), the village will have 21 residential buildings with over 5000 units.
The venue will also feature the Village Plaza, a complex made with recyclable wood and traditional Japanese construction techniques that will be the main leisure and service space for athletes. Covering an area of 5,300 square meters and erected with some 40,000 pieces of wood on one of the islands in Tokyo Bay, the Village Plaza will have cafes and shops for athletes, as well as a press room and spaces for events related to the Olympic Games. It will connect all the buildings where all players will live.
It should be noted that due to security measures, the Olympic Village will only be accessible to athletes, members of national delegations, and accredited media.
Tokyo 2020 will begin on July 23, 2021.
