The initiation of the 2nd MPCL Azadi Cup hockey tournament will mark the onset of a fresh era, where young players will take center stage as future heroes. These views were expressed yesterday while addressing the meeting held at Allama Iqbal Community Hall of Pakistan Sports Board۔
The 2nd Mari Petroleum Azadi Hockey Cup, organized by the MPCL and supervised by PHF, is scheduled to take place from August 15 to August 20 at the Lt. Gen. Ashfaq Nadeem Hockey Stadium in Rawalpindi. A meeting was held to coordinate the tournament, bringing together technical officials, and umpires designated by the Pakistan Hockey Federation. Tournament Director Olympian Nasir Ali, and Organizing Secretary Col. R Muhammad Yameen presided the meeting. The meeting took place at the Pakistan Sports Board Allama Iqbal Hostel to ensure effective supervision of the event.
During his address to the umpires and technical officials, Olympian Nasir Ali, the tournament director, emphasized their pivotal role in ensuring the success of any tournament. He urged them to diligently execute their professional responsibilities with the highest levels of integrity and fairness throughout the event.
Organizing Secretary and Director of Sports, Col. R Muhammad Yameen, stated that following the directives of MDCEO Mari Petroleum, Faheem Haider, this tournament aims to identify future heroes, with players potentially bringing international renown to the nation. The event provides players a platform to display their skills before national selectors.
Zulfiqar Baig, Syed Zia Hussain Bukhari, Muhammad Hafeez, Ameer Hamza, Irfan Tahir, Haji Naeem, Rizwan Khan, Saeed Ahmed, Asad Abbas, Anwar Hussain, Tahir Sharif Gujjar, Naveed Ahmed, Fahad Ali Khan, Malik Safdar, Haider Ali, Murtaza Bhatti, Gulfam Khokhar, Asif Baig, Hamza Tufail, Haroon Rashid, Asif Shehzad, Kamran Shah, Mubarik Ali, and Akhtar Ali participated in the Technical Officials and Umpires meeting held today, along with the Tournament Director Olympian Nasir Ali and Tournament Organizing Secretary Col. (Retd) Mohammad Yameen.
