Following the opening of the 3rd Asian Youth Games, organisers expressed pride in successfully delivering the event in just eight months after Bahrain stepped in to host when Uzbekistan withdrew. Despite acknowledging that the absence of an Athletes’ Village complicated logistics for the 4,074 participants, officials highlighted the achievement as a remarkable feat.
Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, Secretary General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, noted that more preparation time would have allowed for a central athletes’ hub, easing transport from the 55 hotels used across the city.
Olympic Council of Asia Director General Husain Al Musallam praised Bahrain’s swift response and organisation, emphasising that while other hosts typically have six years to prepare, Bahrain managed to “save the Games.”
The 2025 edition set multiple records: participation from all 45 National Olympic Committees, 4,074 athletes, 26 sports, 232 events, and the largest-ever media presence.
The Games opened with a vibrant ceremony celebrating Bahrain’s culture and heritage, while 20 upgraded venues—led by Exhibition World Bahrain, now a multi-sport complex—are hosting nine days of competition.
