We are into the second day of the World Hockey League and the teams appear to be in full swing, scoring away goals against their competitors and showcasing spectacular hockey skills on the field.
The Men’s Hockey matches for the day started off with Hong Kong competing against Brunei. Hong Kong successfully scored three goals against Brunei and bagged its second consecutive win. Felix emerged as the hero for Hong Kong again, scoring two goals in this match while the third goal was scored by Chan Ka Chun. The second match was between China and Vietnam. This was China’s first match in the league. The team put up a great match, scoring 11 goals against Vietnam and dragging it to its second loss in the league while gaining itself a first win in the WHL 2016.

The Women’s Hockey matches kicked off with Thailand competing against Brunei. Thailand scored its second consecutive win in the league, scoring seven goals against Brunei. The second match was held between Kazakhstan and Cambodia. The women from Kazakhstan seemed adamant to prove themselves and were determined to not follow the same fate as their male counterparts did the day before. They fiercely attacked their competitor’s goalkeeper and successfully scored 14 goals! Cambodia was a little less fortunate and lost the match for the day. It’s surprising that Cambodia lost by a score of 14-0 both days.
Hong Kong seems to be on a lucky streak. It has been winning in both the Men’s and Women’s events in the league. Arif Ali, Coach of the Hong Kong Women’s Hockey team in a statement to the Singapore Hockey said; “I am happy with the result especially since we have nine players who are making their international debut today. The 3-0 win gives us a chance to build on and achieve our pre-tournament objective of qualifying for the World League Round 2.” The Hong Kong girls scored four goals in their second match and won the match against their competitors who managed to score only one goal, thanks to the defender of the Hong Kong team. Lo, the Captain of the Hong Kong Women’s team seemed very proud of her team, given their amazing performance in both matches.
