IOC President Thomas Bach lauds Iran’s achievements at the Olympics

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach has sent a letter of appreciation to the President of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, for the country’s participation in the Olympic movement for more than 100 years.

President Bach also wished Iranian athletes the very best at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In reply to correspondence from the Iran NOC, IOC President Bach stated: “I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for your initiative in holding a ceremony to celebrate the achievements of Iranian athletes and their families.

“The news, video and pictures you sent represented a special, magnificent and impressive ceremony. I hope for the success of Iranian athletes in the important year of the 2024 Olympic Games. I wish all Iranian athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympic Games to be successful and proud,” Bach wrote.

Iran first participated at the Olympic Games in 1900. Iran’s NOC was founded in 1947.

At the last Olympic Games in Tokyo, Iran won three gold medals in karate, shooting and wrestling.
