The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (KHM) through the National Team Management Committee chaired by the Deputy President of KHM, Dato’ Najmi Razak has officially announced the list of 18 national male and female players along with the coaching staff who will be responsible for the 2024 Olympic Qualifying FIH Hockey Championship.

The National Women’s Team that will play in Valencia, Spain on January 13 to 21 will depart on Sunday (January 7) while the National Men’s Team will make an appearance in Muscat, Oman on January 15 to 21, 2024 will depart on Thursday (January 11).

The 2024 FIH Hockey Olympic Qualification Tournament is the final stage for all teams to advance to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with the top three teams of the tournament clinching a slot at the world’s highest tournament.

For the Men’s Category which took place in Muscat, Oman, Malaysia were drawn in Group A with China, Great Britain and Pakistan while Germany, New Zealand, Canada and Chile were placed in Group B.

The Women’s Category which took place in Valencia, Spain, saw Malaysia placed in Group B with the hosts, Spain, Canada and Great Britain while Group A was populated by Belgium, Ireland, Korea and Ukraine.

Through the list of players announced today, Muhammad Shahril Saabah who took a long break due to an injury he suffered earlier returned with the temporary team for the women’s team, a glimpse of Kirandeep Kaur who took a break to continue her studies before will be witnessed.

Commenting on the selection of players for the National Senior Men’s Team, Team Manager, Coach A. Arulselvaraj described the selection of players for this tournament as a balanced selection where the players selected have the best level of fitness, those who have a high spirit and spirit in addition to dying when training session.

“This tournament is not easy for us but we have one focus which is to grab the last ticket to the Paris Olympics and the line-up of players who will bring Malaysia’s challenge to this tournament is the best line-up we have.

“The players who were brought are also the players who are showing the best performance at the moment where five players who were brought did not play in the last Asian Games.

“In that, the players brought are also a line of players that have variations where they can play at least two positions and it makes it easier for the team to change the strategy and position of the players if it needs to be done,” explained Coach A. Arulselvaraj.

As a warm-up for the National Men’s Senior Squad after arriving in Oman, Malaysia will play two friendly matches against Canada on January 12 and Chile on January 13 at 6:00 pm (Malaysian time).
In the same development, for the Manager of the National Women’s Squad, Coach Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim, the players who have been selected to play in this tournament are players who have the best level of technical quality, skills and mental endurance to compete on the international stage in addition to having a fighting spirit tall and positive thinking.

“Although Malaysia is lined up with young players compared to experienced opponents such as Great Britain, Spain and Canada, this is the best stage for the players to gain as much experience as possible to further improve their level and collect team ranking points.

“This tournament will also test the level of courage of the players and how to adapt to the high pressure that will come where it will be very useful for them.

“I also hope that the players will show their best game and can be disruptive in this tournament,” explained Coach Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim.

As a final preparation before going to Valencia, the National Women’s Team will undergo two friendly matches against New Zealand at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium this afternoon and tomorrow.
