The General Assembly of the United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee held its regular meeting last Thursday, March 28, chaired by Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Vice President of the NOC.
It was attended by Dr. Ahmed Al Falasi, NOC Vice President, Faris Mohammed Al Mutawa, NOC Secretary General, members of the General Assembly and media representatives.
The Assembly approved the final accounts and administrative report for 2023, the auditor’s report, the estimated operational budget for 2024 and the estimated budget for participation in sporting competitions in 2024. It also approved the membership of the UAE Luge Federation in the NOC.
Also passed was the participation in sports competitions in 2024, including the 1st Gulf Youth Games hosted by the UAE from April 16 to May 2, the Paris 2024 Olympics in July-August, the 1st Gulf Indoor and Combat Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in September and the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Bangkok and Chonburi in November.
Sheikh Rashid affirmed the General Assembly of the UAE NOC has provided a solid foundation for the Olympic movement in the Emirates since its establishment in 1979, and has enhanced the country’s position and presence in major sport events.
He added the UAE NOC has been keen on formulating innovative methods and building long-term relationships to ensure progress towards a prosperous future for the Olympic movement, applying the principles of participation, experiencing exchange and benefiting from expertise.
Sheikh Rashid called for all stakeholders to rally around athletes during the upcoming period starting with the 1st Gulf Youth Games and then the Paris 2024 Olympics.
