Round 1 of the World Hockey League will be kicking off on the 9th of April. The World Hockey League, which consists of four rounds and spans over two years, serves as one of the deciding factors of qualifying teams for the Hockey World Cup and the Olympics. Therefore, it is believed to be one of the most significant events in Hockey.
This year, there has been a change of events due to the late entry of Sri Lanka participating in the league. The FIH recently made the announcement that Sri Lanka will also be participating in this event and as a result the schedule had to be revised. The participation of Sri Lanka can prove to be very beneficial, given the recognition the teams, which perform well, receive through this platform.
Both, the Sri Lankan Men and Women’s Hockey teams will be participating in the event. The Sri Lankan Men’s Hockey team has been placed in Pool B, alongside Singapore, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Brunei and Vietnam. Sri Lanka will be playing matches against all of the other teams in Pool B. After the teams have played against the teams in their own pool, from the 15th of April the teams will be playing against teams in the other pool.
The Sri Lankan Women’s Hockey team has been placed in Pool A, alongside Kazakhstan, Singapore, Cambodia and Uzbekistan. Similar to the Men’s Hockey teams, the Women Hockey teams will also be competing against teams in their own pool followed by teams in the opposing pool from the 15th.
If the Sri Lankan team manages to perform well in the World Hockey League, it will be able to make a mark for itself in the hockey world and can go a long way. So get ready to give your best performance Sri Lanka and good luck for the league!
