Round 1 of the Hockey World League 2016 has entered into the fourth day. The Female hockey players had a much deserved break today. After providing us with the pleasure of watching such immaculate hockey skills in the Sengkang Stadium they did earn a day off. Meanwhile, the Men’s hockey teams came out on the field and entertained us with a good show of their hockey expertise. Three matches were held today.
The matches kicked off with Brunei competing against Vietnam. It was a very interesting match as both teams had suffered two consecutive losses. However, the tables turned in favor of the Brunei Men’s Hockey team. Zulkarnaien, Alisam and Firdaus were celebrated as heroes for Brunei today as they took over Vietnam, scoring three goals against them and securing their first win in the Hockey World League 2016. Meanwhile, the Men’s Hockey team of Vietnam was only able to score a single goal by the end of the match.
The second match was between Kazakhstan and Myanmar. Kazakhstan made a good start and had scored two goals by half time while Myanmar was stuck at zero. By the end of the match, Kazakhstan scored five goals in total and claimed a victory. Nurkhan Sansyzbayev’s performance was significant in the match as he ensured he did not let any opportunity to score a goal pass through. He scored three goals and played a great role in leading its team towards its first win of the league this year.
The final match of the day was between Sri Lanka and Singapore. By half time, Singapore had scored a goal against Sri Lanka, gaining an edge early on in the match. However, in the second half, the game took an unexpected turn! By the end of the match, Sri Lanka had scored two goals while Singapore remained at a score of one. As a result, Sri Lanka declared victory and roped in its second consecutive win!
Despite the fact that we did not get to see the Women’s Hockey matches today, it proved to be quite an eventful day as two teams; Brunei and Kazakhstan, secured their first victory in the Hockey World League 2016!
