JAKARTA: Oman ended up 7th after they claimed victory against Sri Lanka 5-2 at the GBK Hockey Stadium in Jakarta. It was a good performance by the team coached by Pakistan’s Tahir Zaman as they dominated play and made good of the chances they created.
“We took our chances and worked hard to earn this win. The idea is to develop more consistency with our performances and that is what we plan to take out of this tournament, and come out the next time with even better performances” said Tahir.
“The matches here will help us prepare for the AHF Champions Trophy this October.”
Oman forced a penalty corner in the very first minute but Basin Rajab sent his shot wide of the goal.Mohana Nasser Ali gave Oman the lead in the 5th minute after a delightful move.Sri Lanka drew level in the 14th minute via Mudianselage Rathnayake.
It was an end-to-end display of top quality hockey displayed by both sides. It was Oman who made the breakthrough as Rashad Salim Hamed converted a penalty corner in the 22nd minute to give Oman a 2-1 lead.
Qasim Moosa Khalidsn then extended the lead to 3-1 in the 29th minute with a field goal, meanwhileRashad converted another penalty corner in the 40th minute for a 4-1 lead.Mahmood Ashoor made it 5 for the boys in red in the 44th minute.
Sri Lanka pulled a goal back in the 54th minute through Mudianselage, his second goal in the match.In the end, it was Oman who walked away in the seventh spot.
