It was the girls day today! The Men’s Hockey teams had a break today while they gear up for the semi finals ahead. Meanwhile, the Women’s Hockey teams gave amazing performances on the field. They swooped, swerved and did everything possible to score a goal and provide the spectators with a great play in the Sengkang Stadium.
In the first match of the day, Hong Kong and Cambodia competed against one another. Hong Kong has proved to be a strong contender from the first day. Cambodia, on the other hand, has been unable to claim even a single win to its name. Hong Kong maintained its stellar performance today and scored 13 goals against Cambodia. Cambodia, unfortunately, was not able to make even a single goal. Tiffany Chan, from the Hong Kong team, seemed to be on fire today as she managed to secure six goals for her team!
The second match of the day, held between Kazakhstan and Thailand, was fairly interesting. Both teams have shown great skills on the field over the past few days, giving their best on the field. However, today, Thailand performed better than Kazakhstan and was rewarded with a win. By half time, both teams had scored a goal each. In the second half, the tables turned in favor of the Thailand girls as Kornkanok Sanpoung scored two goals while the rest of the team defended Kazakhstan from securing any goal.
The third match of the day was contended between Singapore and Brunei. Singapore won the match after scoring four goals while Brunei was unable to score even one. In the first half, both teams failed to score a goal. In the second half of the match, Singapore came back with a bang and scored goal after goal. Ong Yan Ting alone scored three goals!
The Women’s Hockey teams will be returning on the field on the 17th of April which will mark as the last day of Round 1 of the Hockey World League 16. The Men’s Hockey teams will resume with the matches tomorrow. Semi Finals are in place as Sri Lanka and Thailand will compete against each other in the first semi final of the HWL 16. The second semi final will be held against China and Singapore.
