Singapore Hockey has been working hard towards youth development and their act can frequently be seen in the form of the National Junior League (NJL). This not only gives the young hockey players the competitive edge they need early on in their life to succeed in the future but it also gives them the little nudge that pushes them out into the world to take on international players and win championships and titles for their homeland.

Sengkang Hockey Stadium saw a lot of hockey action the past month. The National Junior Hockey League started off from the 9th of January and is nearing its final stages as it finally culminates at the end of February. It consists of 34 teams from 15 clubs, competing for 5 titles. There are 13 Girls teams vying to grab a win in the Girls NJL 1 or 2. Meanwhile the Boys teams, 21 in total, are trying to get the hold of the 3 titles, Boys NJL 1, 2 or 3.

The young hockey players have learned the lesson of sportsman spirit as competition is intense, with a team being kicked off in every match. These young boys and girls have derived some valuable insights into hockey as they get a taste of professional hockey and the responsibilities that come along with being one. The competition, the pressure, the fancy titles, it’s all there!

The Jansenites reached the top of the charts in the Girls NJL 1 as they managed to secure a whopping 12 goal score against 1 by the Dover Phoenix. However, the CHIJ STC A climbed up the ladder, crossing the Jansenites by defeating them in their latest match. Meanwhile, SRC is flying on top in the Boys NJL 1 with a 3-1 victory in their latest match against the ORA-RI Youth.

Singapore Hockey, not only holds the National Junior League for the under 19 players but it also holds several other championships all year round, ensuring it caters to hockey players of every age bracket. SPSSC Championships are held almost every month. The SPSSC Championships include both the Junior and Senior Championships. Apart from the hockey tournaments, Singapore Hockey is also very active in conducting different sessions/courses with regard to Hockey including one for Umpiring.

Singapore Hockey has definitely been doing its part in promoting the game of Hockey. It has shown time and again its enthusiasm toward the sport and has ensured every person, be it under 19 or above, has the opportunity to play the game and show their passion for it.
