Defending champions Iran set up a clash with Kazakhstan in a repeat of the last edition’s final in the men’s Indoor Asia Cup hockey after the six-time champions defeated Uzbekistan 12-2 in the first semifinal at the Aspire Dome in Doha on Thursday.
In the other semis, Kazakhstan, who finished second in the 2015 edition, had a tough game against hosts Qatar before emerging victorious 5-4.
In the play-off for fifth-sixth, Malaysia beat Chinese Taipei 6-3 while Oman overcame Thailand 5-3 in the other.
Qatar will lock horn with Uzbekistan for the third place play-off.
Malaysia and Oman will play for the 5th-6th position while Chinese Taipei meet Thailand for the seventh-eighth place.
In the women’s event, Kazakhstan also booked a berth in the final where they will meet Malaysia.
Kazakhstan had earlier beaten Malaysia 4-2, but were held to a 2-2 draw by the Uzbeks. Malaysia earned full points against Thailand (2-1) while China lost 0-13 against North Korea.
Thailand and North Korea play-off for 3th-4th and Uzbekistan will face China for the 5th-6th place.
